Your LIU Promise Success Coach will work with you one-on-one to: Each year, the LIU Post community chooses a common read for the incoming class. A committee comprised of faculty, administrators, staff and students choose a work of fiction or non-fiction that addresses the human experience, raises intercultural knowledge and tolerance, encourages critical thinking and self-reflection, introduces issues relevant to the contemporary world, or provides a model of serious intellectual engagement.

The Common Read will be announced in the Spring semester. The book will be connected with our extended orientation Post Foundation course as well as other programming efforts throughout campus. A first-year seminar is a class with twenty first-year students. It is conducted in a discussion format and focuses on a particular discipline.

Students enrolled in the first-year seminars will have mentoring and guidance from classroom and library faculty members working in collaboration to foster student learning. They will have opportunities both inside and outside the classroom to socialize with their peers and make friends that can last their entire college career.

Students in a first-year fall seminar will also enroll in the same section of POST and in some seminars, ENG 1 also. The seminar will fulfill the same requirements as other sections of the course. Library faculty with expertise in the discipline will be available to assist students with their research.

Most of the first-year seminars are core liberal arts classes that will help students get started on meeting their core requirements in their first semester. Students enrolling in these seminars will also have the opportunity to enroll in a research-oriented first-year seminar in their second semester taught by the same instructor that will also fulfill core requirements. Commuter Plans are geared specifically to give you better dining value for your dollars when you use a meal card instead of paying cash to eat. The dining dollars work on the same principle as bank debit cards. Each time you make a food purchase, the total cost of your meal is subtracted from the dollar balance in your account.

Or, you can purchase one of our block plan options for increased value. Simply use a fill machine in Hillwood or visit the Bursars Office. All funds and plans purchased for use in the LIU Post Dining program are for the personal use of the owner of the account and are non-transferable.
