How much money can you make off Bandcamp? Even if we assume that the vast majority of artists on BC are either hobbyists or make money through other venues other sites, live shows etc. Moreover, it's not uncommon to see a professional sounding album with lots of musicians and technicians in the credits having less than 80 avatars in the "supported by" section this is the number after which the "more Are there ways in which Bandcamp pages make money which aren't readily visible?

Or are Bandcamp pages basically internet billboards which artists set up because they cost nothing and then just collect pocket change while the real money comes from other places? How much money you make off Bandcamp depends exactly and solely upon how many people buy your record off Bandcamp.

YOU have the responsibility of advertising your work. That's just the title, my real questions are in the last paragraph. So far it seems to me that making a profit from Bandcamp alone is nigh-impossible.

If you have a fan base, you can sell directly to them via bandcamp. This includes physical items like CDs, t-shirts, etc. I knew a well-known artist that consistently sold limited edition vinyl re-releases every month, plus probably a few thousand of regular releases once or twice a year.

He was paid to do remixes and also toured a fair amount mostly Europe. How have you worked that out? Because the ONLY way that could be true is there is a function inside the site that stops people buying your music once you've sold a certain amount. Bandcamp doesn't show a sales chart, so the only way stock market closing commentary today see how much each album was sold is through fan pages, and it seems that four-digit numbers of sales are quite rare.

Which is accurate maths, but still something you've just completely made up. Where is your evidence suggesting that 20k is a sensible number to use for how much people spend recording albums? Where is your evidence suggesting it's a sensible number to use for Bandcamp's specific demographics - which I would guess lean overwhelmingly towards the "bedroom musician" bent. So why have you decided the amount of fan avatars on an artist's page represents how many albums they've sold?

I thought it's a bit conservative. I googled "cost to produce an album" and most answers had 5 the money makers bandcamp, excluding marketing. Bedroom musicianship is of course cheaper, but Bandcamp has lots of 'serious' bands as well, with flutes and violins and sessions in multiple studios and stuff. Those were the ones I asked about.

Thanks woolworths australia day public holiday trading hours telling me of my oversight that one can buy from BC without being registered.

If sales to registered users are a minority, then BC pages pay off more than I thought. Ben Sharp from Cloudkicker said that his last album's sales brought him in more money in the first month than from his full time job.

It absolutely can and does happen, but people first have to give a shit about you and your music. If they don't, you won't make any serious money. There are barely any artists that can live off record sales. Even big artists have to play shows and sell merch. The only thing that limits how much money you can make from bandcamp is how many fans you have and how much they're willing to pay.

Not sure what 'real money' you are referring to, http: As much as you can market to make? I think you are thinking about this too much. Here is an easier equation. Now split that between band members and you kinda know how much money you need to pull in. Now base all your other metrics on the amount of money you need.
