Section 1 Front Seats Power Lumbar The controls used to operate the power lumbar feature are located on the outboard side of the seats. Heated Seats If the front seats have the heated seat feature, the buttons used to control this feature are located on the climate control panel. To heat only the seatback, press the top button with the heated seatback symbol.

This symbol will appear on the climate control display to indicate that the feature is on. Heated and Cooled Seats If the front seats have the heated and cooled seat feature, the buttons used to control this feature are located on the climate control panel.

To cool the entire seat, press the button with the cooled seat symbol. Memory Seat, Mirrors, and Pedals Your vehicle has the memory package. This position reduces the chance of a neck injury in a crash. Pull the head restraint up to raise it. Center Seat Your vehicle may have a front center seat.

Do not use it as a seating position when the seatback is folded down. These seats will have either the manual fold and tumble feature or the automatic seat release fold and tumble feature.

The seatback will fold forward automatically. Returning the Seat s to the Sitting Position To return the seat to the sitting position, do the following: Folding and Tumbling the Seat s from the Third Row Seats CAUTION: Using the third row seating position while the second row is folded, or folded and tumbled, could cause injury in a sudden stop or crash.

Be sure to return the seat to the passenger seating position. Automatic Release Fold and Tumble Feature The transmission must be in PARK P for this feature to work. The belt is over an armrest. You can be seriously injured if your belt goes over an armrest like this. The belt would be much too high. In a crash, you can slide under the belt. The shoulder belt is worn under the arm. It should be worn over the shoulder at all times.

Dolly Towing Two-Wheel-Drive Vehicles Rear Wheels Off the Ground Notice: If you tow a two-wheel-drive vehicle with the rear wheels on the ground, the transmission could be damaged. The repairs would not be covered by your warranty.

Never tow your vehicle with the rear wheels on the ground. Towing a Trailer Do not tow a trailer during break-in. See New Vehicle Break-In on page for more information. If you do not use the correct equipment and drive properly, you can lose control when you pull a trailer.

For example, if the trailer is too heavy, the brakes may not work well — If You Do Decide To Pull A Trailer If you do, here are some important points: Weight of the Trailer How heavy can a trailer safely be?

It depends on how you plan to use your rig. For example, speed, altitude, road grades, outside temperature and how much your vehicle is used to pull a trailer are all important. It can also depend on any special equipment that you have on your vehicle, and the amount of tongue weight the vehicle can carry.

Weight of the Trailer Tongue The tongue load A of any trailer is an important weight to measure because it affects the total or gross weight of your vehicle.

The Gross Vehicle Weight GVW includes the curb weight of the vehicle, any cargo you may carry in it, and the people who will be riding in the vehicle. Consider the following example: A vehicle model base weight is 5, lbs 2 kg ; 2, lbs 1 kg at the front axle and 2, lbs 1 kg at the rear axle.

It has a GVWR of 7, lbs 3 kga RGAWR of 4, lbs 1 kg and a GCWR Gross Combination Weight Rating of 14, lbs 6 kg. It is important that you make sure your vehicle does not exceed any of its ratings — GCWR, GVWR, RGAWR, Maximum Trailer Rating or Tongue Weight. The only way to be sure you are not exceeding any of these ratings is to weigh your vehicle and trailer.

This equipment is very important for proper vehicle loading and good handling when driving. Safety Chains You should always attach chains between your vehicle and your trailer. Cross the safety chains under the tongue of the trailer to help prevent the tongue from contacting the road if it becomes separated from the hitch.

Always leave just enough slack so you can turn with your rig. Towing a trailer requires a certain amount of experience. Acquaint yourself with the feel of handling and braking with the added weight of the trailer. And always keep in mind that the vehicle you are driving is now a good deal longer and not nearly as responsive as your vehicle is by itself. Parking on Hills CAUTION: You really should not park your vehicle, with a trailer attached, on a hill.

If something goes wrong, your rig could start to move. People can be injured, and both your vehicle and the trailer can be damaged. Trailer Wiring Harness Heavy-Duty Trailer Wiring Package Your vehicle is equipped with the seven-wire trailer towing harness. This harness with a seven-pin universal heavy-duty trailer connector is attached to the rear bumper beam.

It is located next to the integrated trailer hitch. Electric Brake Control Wiring Provisions These wiring provisions are included with your vehicle as part of the heavy-duty trailer wiring package. These provisions are for an electric brake controller. Section 5 Tire Pressure Monitor Operation You will receive genuine GM parts and GM-trained and supported service people.

Genuine GM parts have one of these marks: California Perchlorate Materials Requirements Certain types of automotive applications, such as airbag initiators, seat belt pretensioners, and lithium batteries contained in remote keyless entry transmitters, may contain perchlorate materials. Special handling may be necessary. For additional information, see www. Doing Your Own Service Work CAUTION: You can be injured and your vehicle could be damaged if you try to do service work on a Fuel Use of the recommended fuel is an important part of the proper maintenance of your vehicle.

To help keep the engine clean and maintain optimum vehicle performance, we recommend the use of gasoline advertised as TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline. Gasoline Octane Use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. Additives To provide cleaner air, all gasolines in the United States are now required to contain additives that help prevent engine and fuel system deposits from forming, allowing the emission control system to work properly.

In most cases, you should not have to add anything to the fuel. However, some gasolines contain only the minimum amount of additive required to meet U. Filling the Tank CAUTION: To help avoid injuries to you and others, read and follow all the instructions on the pump island. Turn off your engine when you are refueling. Do not smoke if you are near fuel or refueling your vehicle.

To open the fuel door, push the rearward center edge inboard and release. The door will pop open. To remove the fuel cap, turn it slowly counterclockwise. The fuel cap has a spring in it; if the cap is released too soon, it will spring back to the right.

When replacing the fuel cap, insert the tether in its hole before tightening the cap. Turn the fuel cap clockwise until it clicks.

It will require more effort to turn the fuel cap on the last turn as you tighten it. Make sure the cap is fully installed. Filling a Portable Fuel Container CAUTION: Static electricity discharge from the container can ignite the fuel vapor. You can be badly burned and your vehicle damaged if this occurs. To help avoid injury to you and others: Hood Release To open the hood do the following: Pull the handle with this symbol on it.

It is located inside the vehicle to the lower left of the steering wheel. Then go to the front of the vehicle and locate the secondary hood release, near the center of the grille. Engine Compartment Overview When you open the hood on the 6. Air Filter Restriction Indicator If Equipped. Coolant Surge Tank and Pressure Cap. See Cooling System on page and Coolant Surge Tank Pressure Cap on page Engine Oil Checking Engine Oil It is a good idea to check the engine oil every time you get fuel.

In order to get an accurate reading, the oil must be warm and the vehicle must be on level ground. The engine oil dipstick handle is a yellow loop. What Kind of Engine Oil to Use Look for three things: However, not all synthetic oils will meet this GM standard. Look for and use only an oil that meets GM Standard GMM. When adding oil to maintain engine oil level, oil meeting GM Standard GMM may not be available.

You can add substitute oil designated SAE 5W with the starburst symbol at all temperatures. To reset the Engine Oil Life System: Display the OIL LIFE REMAINING on the DIC. Care should be taken to dislodge as little dirt as possible.

Reinstall the cover and tighten the screws. Allow the engine to idle — rpm for at least one minute. Slowly release the brake pedal. Check both sides of the dipstick, and read the lower level.

Repeat the check procedure to verify the reading. Safe operating level is within the HOT cross hatch band on the dipstick. Use only the proper mixture of the engine coolant listed in this manual for the cooling system.

Adding Coolant If more coolant is needed, add the proper DEX-COOL coolant mixture at the surge tank, but only when the engine is cool. You can be burned if you spill coolant on hot engine parts. Coolant contains ethylene glycol, and it will burn if the engine parts are hot enough. You or others could be badly burned. Stop your engine if it overheats, and get out of the vehicle until the engine is cool. See Overheated Engine Protection Operating Mode on page for information on driving to a safe place in an emergency.

If you no longer have the overheat warning, you can drive. Just to be safe, drive slower for about 10 minutes. If the warning does not come back on, you can drive normally. If the warning continues, pull over, stop, and park your vehicle right away. Cooling System When you decide it is safe to lift the hood, here is what you will see: Coolant Surge Tank B. Coolant Surge Tank Pressure Cap C. Engine Cooling Fan CAUTION: An electric engine cooling fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you.

The coolant level should be at or above the FULL COLD mark. If it is not, you may have a leak at the pressure cap or in the radiator hoses, heater hoses, radiator, water pump, or somewhere else in the cooling system. How to Add Coolant to the Coolant Surge Tank If you have not found a problem yet, check to see if coolant is visible in the surge tank. Coolant contains ethylene glycol and it will burn if the engine parts are hot enough.

Do not spill coolant on a hot engine. You can remove the coolant surge tank pressure cap when the cooling system, With the coolant surge tank pressure cap off, start the engine and let it run until you can feel the upper radiator hose getting hot.

Watch out for the engine cooling fan. By this time, the coolant level inside the coolant surge tank may be lower. Power Steering Fluid See Engine Compartment Overview on page for reservoir location.

See Engine Compartment Overview on page for the location of the reservoir. If it is not, have the brake hydraulic system checked to see if there is a leak. After work is done on the brake hydraulic system, make sure the level is above the MIN but not over the MAX mark. Brake Wear Your vehicle has disc brakes. Disc brake pads have built-in wear indicators that make a high-pitched warning sound when the brake pads are worn and new pads are needed. When you replace parts of the braking system — for example, when the brake linings wear down and you need new ones put in — be sure you get new approved replacement parts.

If you do not, the brakes might not work properly. Be sure to use the following steps to do it safely. Batteries can hurt you. They can be dangerous because: If you leave your radio or other accessories on during the jump starting procedure, they could be damaged.

Always turn off your radio and other accessories when jump starting your vehicle. An electric fan can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan. Using a match near a battery can cause battery gas to explode. People have been hurt doing this, and some have been blinded. Check that the jumper cables do not have loose or missing insulation. If they do, you could get a shock. The vehicles could be damaged too.

Before you connect the cables, here are some basic things you should know. If the jumper cables are connected or removed in the wrong order, electrical shorting may occur and damage the vehicle.

Always connect and remove the jumper cables in the correct order, making sure that the cables do not touch each other or other metal. All-Wheel Drive Transfer Case If your vehicle is equipped with All-Wheel Drive, be sure to perform the lubricant checks described in this section. There are two additional systems that need lubrication. When to Check Lubricant Refer to the Maintenance Schedule to determine how often to check the lubricant. Have it inspected and repaired.

What to Use Refer to the Maintenance Schedule to determine what kind of lubricant to use. See Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page Headlamp Aiming The vehicle has a visual optical headlamp aiming system.

The aim of the headlamps have been preset at the factory and should need no further adjustment. However, if the vehicle is damaged in a crash, the aim of the headlamps may be affected and adjustment may be necessary.

The high-beam headlamps will be correctly aimed if the low-beam headlamps are aimed properly. To adjust the vertical aim: See Hood Release on page for more information. Locate the vertical headlamp aiming screws, which are under the hood near each headlamp assembly.

Turn the vertical aiming screw until the headlamp beam is aimed to the horizontal tape line. Turn it clockwise or counterclockwise to raise or lower the angle of the beam. Bulb Replacement For the proper type of replacement bulbs, see Replacement Bulbs on page High Intensity Discharge HID Lighting CAUTION: The low beam high intensity discharge lighting system operates at a very high voltage.

Remove the two screws from the taillamp assembly. Pull the taillamp assembly rearward until you disengage the inner pins on the taillamp assembly from the vehicle.

Press the release tab, if the bulb socket has one, and turn the socket counterclockwise to remove it from the taillamp assembly. License Plate Lamp 1. Remove the two screws holding each of the license plate lamps to the molding that is part of the liftgate.

Twist and pull the license plate lamp forward through the molding opening. Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement Windshield wiper blades should be inspected for wear or cracking. See Scheduled Maintenance on page Replacement blades come in different types and are removed in different ways.

To replace the wiper blade assembly: Pull the windshield wiper arm connector away from the windshield. Backglass Wiper Blade Replacement 1. Lift the wiper blade assembly up and out of the park rest position. Pull the wiper blade assembly away from the backglass.

The backglass wiper blade will not lock in a vertical position, so care should be used when pulling it away from the vehicle. Tires Your new vehicle comes with high-quality tires made by a leading tire manufacturer. Tire Sidewall Labeling Useful information about a tire is molded into the sidewall. The following illustration is an example of a typical P-Metric tire sidewall. Tire Size The following examples show the different parts of a tire size. Air pressure is expressed in pounds per square inch psi or kilopascal kPa. Accessory Weight This means the combined weight of optional accessories. GAWR RR Gross Axle Weight Rating for the rear axle. Radial Ply Tire A pneumatic tire in which the ply cords that extend to the beads are laid at 90 degrees to the centerline of the tread. A metal support for a tire and upon which the tire beads are seated. Sidewall The portion of a tire between the tread and the bead.

How to Check Use a good quality pocket-type gage to check tire pressure. Tire Pressure Monitor System The Tire Pressure Monitor System TPMS uses radio and sensor technology to check tire pressure levels. Federal Communications Commission FCC and Industry and Science Canada The Tire Pressure Monitor System TPMS operates on a radio frequency and complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.

This device may not cause harmful interference. TPMS Malfunction Light and Message The TPMS will not function properly if one or more of the TPMS sensors are missing or inoperable.

Proceed to the passenger side front tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 5. Proceed to the passenger side rear tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 5. Proceed to the driver side rear tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 5. Do not include the spare tire in the tire rotation. If you need replacement tires, GM strongly recommends that you get tires with the same TPC Spec rating.

Use only radial-ply tires with the wheels on your vehicle. Uniform Tire Quality Grading Quality grades can be found where applicable on the tire sidewall between tread shoulder and maximum section width. Treadwear Traction AA Temperature A The following information relates to the system developed by the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSAwhich grades tires by treadwear, traction, and temperature performance. Sustained high temperature can cause the material of the tire to degenerate and reduce tire life, and excessive temperature can lead to sudden tire failure.

Wheel Replacement Replace any wheel that is bent, cracked, or badly rusted or corroded. If wheel nuts keep coming loose, the wheel, wheel bolts, and wheel nuts should be replaced. If the wheel leaks air, replace it except some aluminum wheels, which can sometimes be repaired.

Used Replacement Wheels CAUTION: Putting a used wheel on your vehicle is dangerous. You cannot know how it has been used or how far it has been driven.

It could fail suddenly and cause a crash. If you have to replace a wheel, use a new GM original equipment wheel. If air goes out of a tire, it is much more likely to leak out slowly.
